After 3 months technical and social mapping facilitation, the Yarona Village in Buruway, Kaimana West Papua now have a final draft of social and digital maps. WEER as the local NGO whose working with the community producing this map confirmed that they have finalize the 1st draft of social and technical maps. All the technical maps are taken on 2 weeks field gps tracking with the community while social information were collected in 3 month data collection. Now all the digital map with it social data are ready for final discussion and agreement internally in Yarona and with the neighbor villages Includes Esania, Hia, Tairi and Edor.
Community in Yarona aware that their land rights will be threaten by current development plan and the increasing of land uses and forestry demand in Kaimana. Learning from their past experienced with Haruta Co.Ltd (one of the big Indonesia Logging concession holder in Papua) where unclear right recognition and preliminaryy benefit negotiation had creates ecological and social problems in the community. And learning from the the community in Esania whose under supported by Samdhana and PERDU has initiated village forests, Yarona community are feel that having a customary boundary maps should be one vital capital in the early stages on fighting for their right protection. A long vision is also in some elders head. Where they do care of the sustainable benefit for their future generation and a legal document the can generate to their next generation.
A final process will cover a verification, double check and final approval. Beside make sure that all the key representative of the neighbor villages are participating, WEER and the village elders in Yarona has also lists the importance of government and parliament presents.
